‘Crazy Horse’ Leather

Despite the name this type of leather is neither horse leather or anything to do with mental disturbances at all. Instead is is a full grain cow hide that has simply keeps the top layer with the hair removed or shaved off and so is much tougher than other leather that has had the top payer removed completely.

Removal of the top layer with the hair makes the leather softer and more malleable. So by leaving it on and just shaving off the hair the leather is much tougher and more durable. So much so that it is used in Saddle Leather or Bridal Leather and hard wearing enough to cope the wear and tear you may need while breaking a wild horse, where the name really comes from. The leather requires less care and maintenance with perhaps the lightest touch of Suede Protector very occasionally.
